SF Chefs. Food. Wine., August 6–9, 2009, honors and celebrates all that the Bay Area has to offer in
the way of food, wine, talent, and craftsmanship.
San Francisco and Northern California have always led food and wine trends, food politics, and the
sustainability movement. It is a community rich with farmers, writers, winemakers, spirits distillers,
artisans, and vibrant independent chef-owned restaurants. The population is well-educated, diverse,
and appreciative of great food and good living. Mild weather ensures quality produce year-round.
The moderate climate is also perfect for growing grapes and the area is recognized as one of the top
wine-producing regions in the world. A devotion to social consciousness has helped the area become
the epicenter of sustainability in farming, fishing, and ranching. Rounding out the natural bounty is
fresh Pacific Ocean seafood from just outside the Golden Gate, one of the richest fisheries on Earth.
SF Chefs. Food. Wine. festivities start with the Chronicle Rising Star Chef reception on Thursday
night; a collaborative chef dinner featuring Arnold Wong, Charles Phan, and Martin Yan; and a special
screening of the new film Julie & Julia. Friday day includes seminars, samples of food from local
chefs, wines featuring the Napa Valley, local microbrews and spirits, and cooking demonstrations
in the Grand Tasting Tent. Evening brings the American Culinary Pioneers Awards dinner with
Patrick O’Connell and a party hosted by Elizabeth Falkner. Saturday day presents more food and wine
seminars and a new team of local chefs serving tastes in the Grand Tasting Tent with wines from
Sonoma County. The Sommelier Awards Luncheon honors Master Sommelier Larry Stone, and the
Saturday night SF Chefs Rock Union Square dinner concert and chocolate-inspired after-party end
the day. Sunday day brings the weekend to a close with unique seminars, new chefs in the Grand
Tasting Tent, and wines from Napa, Sonoma, and other premier Northern California appellations.
